Suspension of sales to the EU and Northern Ireland

General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)

The regulation aims to ensure the safety of goods not covered by existing EU standards and CE marking, including some already regulated but not when sold online or via distance sales. It is comprehensive, covering new products on the EU market.

We attended a webinar by the Department of Business & Trade today on this subject and given the complexity of it all and the huge fines for non compliance we have decided to temporarily suspend sales to the EU states and Northern Ireland.

We will continue our research and attend further webinars specifically related to Craft in early January and work towards becoming compliant.

We need time to look into this and weigh up the potential cost to our small business.

It’s an important regulation and we will make every effort to get this right so we can continue to sell to our wonderful European neighbours.

Claire’s Jungle Book illustrations at Batemans

We’re delighted to have a selection of prints, original preliminary sketches and paintings by Claire on display at Made in Hastings.

Here are the details from Batemans.

“Illustrations by well-known and much-loved Hastings-based artist Claire Fletcher, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, The Jungle Book, displayed in the home of the writer himself. See characters from Kipling’s stories reimagined in charming original watercolours created especially for Bateman’s in celebration of Kipling’s original books being published 130 years ago. In this joyful family-friendly exhibition, come along with your little ones and see if you can spot bears, elephants and tigers. Original Christmas art works by Claire Fletcher will be added into the exhibition from 15 November 2024”

What a pleasure it is to welcome three wonderful Scottish makers to join us at Made.

RED RUBY ROSE

Red Ruby Rose was created in 2008 by designer/maker Rowena Dugdale. Rowena studied textile design at Edinburgh College of Art and many of the fabrics featured are her original designs. Inspiration comes from her photographic and alternative-process techniques including photogram and pinhole photography, and also her collage work which draws on layered organic images from natural forms such as petals and feathers. Each piece is designed and handmade in Rowena’s design studio by the sea in Wester Ross, Scotland.

CARLA EDWARDS

Carla designs and makes contemporary jewellery from her workshop in Leith, Edinburgh.

Inspiration comes from a love of the natural world, pattern, colour and drawing. The small details of plants fascinate Carla and she enjoys translating elements of drawings into wearable jewellery. Pieces are influenced by sketches from her garden, walks in the woods and the famous Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh.

PORTIA KNIGHT

A New Zealander living in the UK for many years, Portia has always loved Scotland — the landscape, the big sky and the people. Her home on the north east coast is a refuge, and her interest in the art of seaweeding grew from reading about its Victorian ‘seaweed hunting’ roots and a growing desire to pursue creativity here by the sea shore. Portia’s card sets are exquisitely printed on 350gsm FSC certified matt white card including UK made recycled ivory fleck envelopes.

We’ve been Greened in readiness for Jack in the Green!

You will now find that your shipping is calculated by weight and your purchases will be winging their way across the globe for a more reasonable charge. We hope it all goes smoothly but as with anything new, we may have some teething problems.

We have also rounded up our UK rate to an even £5 to allow for increased packaging costs.
